Hairyjoint Meadowparsnip

Product Description

One of two rare native Meadowparsnips. It's a member of the carrot family, and hosts the Eastern Black Swallowtail. Basal leaves stay low, with yellow flower stalks up to 2-3' tall. Likes sun with rich organic well drained soils. Great for butterflies and small bees. The spent flowers turn into reddish brown seeds that are attractive to small animals. While the flowers are not particularly showy, the fluttering Swallowtails are certainly an even trade-off. During the cooler months, the leaves give a show of reddish hues that make you look twice at this inconspicuous flower.
