Red Mangrove
Product Description
Red Mangrove, Rhizophora mangle, grows to 30 ft. in height or more, with a tangled mass of smooth tan prop or aerial roots. The leathery, rich green leaves are year around with small, clustered, yellow-green, star-like flowers in spring. Brown, cylindrical fruits are produced that are adapted to float in salt water moving along coast lines until it locates where it can germinate and start growing as a new tree. This is a colonizer tree, the first Mangrove in the shoreline, trapping sand and sediment to build islands and shorelines. Mangroves provide nature's intended protection to wind and storm surge protection to shorelines.
