Andropogon gerardii

Long-lived perennial deciduous native grass. Can reach up to 4-7ft tall sometimes 10ft, by 3-5ft wide. It thrives in full sun with an average soil moisture. If used in a garden, too much water, shade, or fertilizer can cause it to get top-heavy and fall over. Noted for silvery-blue foliage that turns bronze in fall. Salt water and wind tolerant. The grass is favored by livestock and so has become much rarer than when there was only seasonal bison grazing. Provides cover and seed for many species of songbirds.
