Larval host (caterpillars) of Monarch, Queen, and Soldier butterflies, making it very popular with butterfly gardeners. moist to wet conditions in sun to bright shade. Like all native milkweeds to Florida, this species is winter dormant. partial to full sun and dry sandy soils. It attracts butterflies and bees. Not aggressive. The species was important medicinally for several indigenous American tribes.
