Welcome to the Beginner Landscape Design Workshop, where you'll embark on a creative journey to transform outdoor spaces into beautiful, functional environments. This hands-on workshop is perfect for anyone eager to start designing their own garden or outdoor area. You’ll learn the foundational principles of landscape design, from selecting the right plants to drawing a detailed plan.

Drawing a Plan with a Sample Plot: You’ll get hands-on experience by creating a scaled plan of a sample plot. This includes:

• Measuring and Mapping: Learn how to accurately measure your space and translate it onto paper.
• Sketching Layouts: Practice sketching various elements like paths, patios, and garden beds.
• Incorporating Features: Add elements such as water features, seating areas, and lighting to your plan.

Height and Scale: Properly incorporating height and scale in your design will be covered:

• Layering: Use plants of varying heights to create depth and dimension.
• Focal Points: Position taller plants and structures strategically to draw attention and create balance.
• Scale Considerations: Ensure that plants and features are proportionate to the space and each other.

Plant Choices: Learn about plant selection based on factors like climate, soil type, and sunlight. We’ll cover:

• Native and Florida-Friendly Plants: Discover the benefits of each and how to use them to create year-round interest while supporting wildlife.
• Shrubs and Trees: Understand their roles in providing structure and scale.
• Ground Covers and Grasses: Explore options for filling in gaps and adding texture.
• Seasonal Blooms: Choose plants that provide color and visual interest throughout different times of the year.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a solid understanding of landscape design basics and a completed plan for a sample plot, ready to be adapted to your own space. Class size is limited to 10 participants.

The price includes one hour of instruction, 2 Books (Xeric Landscaping with Florida Native Plants and Florida-Friendly Guide to Plant Selection & Landscape Design), a sample plot, and materials to create a designs on the sample plot. We will also provide you with handouts with plant choices for a variety of conditions.
