Shiny Blueberry (Vaccinium myrsinites) is a small growing native Blueberry that typically grows 1 to 2 feet, but usually on the shorter side. The small leaves are alternate, simple, elliptical, and glossy, giving it the common name. The white to pink bell shaped flowers in the spring contrast against the bronze new growth at that time of year and attract pollinators including butterflies. Edible small berries are good attractors for birds. Blueberries need lots of sun, acidic soil, and in the landscape, good moisture even though they come from dry places in the wild. Shiny Blueberry and Little also known as Scrub Blueberries may be easier grown as container plants.
