Product Details

Summer Haw, Crataegus flava, grows to approximately 20 feet and is a variable, deciduous, small tree. It has a broad shape with spiny branches. In the early spring, it produces white flowers followed by yellow-orange fruit. Summer Haw is a tough survivor adapted to well drained, dry sites. Many specimen of this species have a weeping habit. It grows at a moderate to fast rate, but usually not attractive in nursery pots. This is unfortunate, since this hardy native tree should be commonly planted. Because it takes some understanding of its potential, they too often get passed over in tree selections. Use this showy, small, flowering native tree in well drained, sunny locations where you would want a specimen tree that is very tough and wildlife beneficial.
