Varnishleaf, Dodonaea viscosa, grows quickly to 12 to 16 ft. high with an open habit / density. It is a tropical native shrub that has papery, broad, glossy leaves. Attractive three-winged fruits incrementally turn from green to yellow to copper colored follow axillary clusters of small, pale-yellow to reddish flowers. This is a very unique plant that is salt air tolerant, but is not very wind tolerant. Varnish Leaf is very tolerant of sandy poor soil and is very drought tolerant and easy growing.
