Winged Sumac also known as Shiny or Dwarf Sumac, Rhus copallinum, is an accent plant with compound leaves and open canopy exude an airy texture. Winged Sumac is a deciduous plant growing from 10 feet to 15 feet tall and with a small canopy. The attractive flowers are greenish white and stand out at the branch tips and are produced in the late spring and through the summer. The tiny drupes produced in clusters after the bloom have a lemon like taste that can be used for flavoring and is also used by wildllife. The Shrub or small accent tree prefers good drainage and full to partial sun. This is a larval and nectar plant for Red-Banded Hairstreak Butterflies.
