Wild Petunia, Ruellia caroliniensis, is a perennial that grows 6 to 18 inches in height and is winter dormant. It's pale lavender to purple flowers are 1 inch across and are produced prolifically in late winter and through the spring months with intermittent blooming through summer and fall. Opposite Gray-green leaves have curly or wavy-toothed margins. Wild petunia is a nectar plant for butterflies and is also a host plant for Common Buckeye and Peacock butterflies. This is small mounding plant that is very adaptable and easy to grow in full sun to bright shade as well as being drought tolerant.
