Wild Plumbago

Wild Plumbago (Plumbago zeylanica) is a perennial that acts almost like a vine in the understory. It grows outward from the central stem for 3-4 ft. or more creating a ground cover if it is free standing. It's elliptical-shaped soft leaves are alternate on the stems, quite thin, and generally deep green. The flowers are bright white and are bore most of the warm months at the end of the branches. Wild Plumbago is adapted to bright shade to full sun and is very tough once established. Cassius Blue butterflies are frequently seen on this plant as a host plant. The larva use the flower bud, flower and seed of Wild Plumbago. It can be used as a ground cover or espalier in the landscape.
