Lindera benzoin is a deciduous shrub reaching 10 feet high and wide named for its fragrant leaves. It is an understory plant that prefers full shade to dappled sun with moist to average soil. It can tolerate more sun if given ample water. Larval host plant for Spicebush Swallowtail and Palamedes Swallowtail.
