Sweet Acacia (Vachellia farnesiana var. farnesiana) is a fast growing, 15-20 foot multi-trunked large shrub or tree. Branchlets are spiny and support extremely fine divided leaves. Showy, very fragrant, deep yellow flowers in globose, pom pom like heads are produced in the fall. Fruit is a reddish brown to black woody pod 1 1/2 to 3 inches long. This unique plant is coastally adapted and tolerates dry sandy soils in partial to full sun.
