Myrsine, Myrsine cubana, is a coastal upland shrub or small tree. It has luxuriant, shiny, deep green, large leaves that give the plant a rich appearance. The flowers are small and basically inconspicuous. The female plants produce tiny hard fruit down from the outer ends of its stems that attract birds to them for food. The plant is upright shaped and grows up to 14 feet tall with a 7 to 8 foot spread. Myrsine is salt air and poor soil tolerant. Plant Myrsine in well drained soil in shade to sun. It makes a great enclosure, screening, specimen plant, or small tree.
