Pink Swamp Milkweed also known as Rose Swamp Milkweed, Asclepias incarnata, is a tall, 3 to 4 foot growing perennial milkweed. The clusters of showy pink flowers are produced in the later part of the summer. The blooms are attractive to pollinators including many butterflies. The tall stems support the many linear leaves used by larvae (caterpillars) of Monarch, Queen, and Soldier butterflies, making it very popular with butterfly gardeners. Be sure to plant this moisture loving milkweed in moist to wet conditions in sun to bright shade. Some gardeners plant these in pots where the improved potting mix helps to keep the plant moist, but the pot needs to be large enough to not dry out too fast and to accommodate the mature height of the growth in the summer and fall. In a large enough pot, this tall milkweed mixes well with short growing White Swamp Milkweed around the edges. Like all native milkweeds to Florida, this species is winter dormant.
