Product Details

Barbados Cherry, Malpighia punicifolia, is a common tree through the Caribbean and Central America. It is a large evergreen and tropical shrub to small tree growing to 15 feet without pruning. Barbados Cherry is a fairly easy growing plant with reasonable drought tolerance. Well established plants can be sensitive to temperatures below freezing. The small pink flowers provide an ornamental element from late spring through the fall. The medium green leaves are approximately 2 inches long. The fruit is a bright red cherry like fruit. It is mildly tart and is high in vitamin C. It can be used fresh, frozen, or used in Jams and Pie fillings. Barbados Cherry should be planted in well drained soil and in full to mostly full sun exposure.
