Florida Privet, Forestiera segregata, is a semi-evergreen shrub or small tree that can grow up to 14 feet in height with a broad shape. The inconspicuous flowers are yellow-green attracting many pollinators. The female plants produce a black fruit at several sets during the growing season, which is a highly sought out food by birds. Florida Privet is a coastal plant adapted to salt air, poor, moist to dry soil and has good frost tolerance. It can be pruned and can be used in landscapes as a buffer plant or small tree. This is an easy and fast growing plant. Be sure to plant male and female plants to get fruit for the birds.
