Southern Magnolia, Magnolia grandiflora, is an iconic American tree, native to the south including Florida. This tree grows to 70 feet or more, with a rounded crown. Known for its large 8 inch highly fragrant white flowers that attract pollinators. The cone like seedpods that contain large red seeds is ornamental and very attractive to songbirds. The leaves are large and leathery, dark green. It is a popular ornamental and shade tree that is commanding with its rich elegant features. Plant in full to partial sun and in moist to average organic soil. Besides seedling Florida trees, there are popular cultivars that originate in other southern states.
