Illicium floridanum is an Upright, rounded evergreen shrub or small tree that grows up to 15′ tall and spreads to 8′ wide. Requires moist-average soil and shade. It is native to moist woods in north Florida. Unique red flowers bloom in spring with fruit ripening in the fall. Excellent screening plant in shady, wet locations.

'Miss Scarlett' cultivar is compact, reaching 4-6 ft high and 3-5 ft wide.
