Pinus elliottii var 'Densa', is a large tree with a broad crown. 30-50 feet in height. It requires full sun and well-draining, sandy soils. The 'Densa' variety is slower growing with a more compact form from naturally-occurring populations found in pine rocklands. They perform better in alkaline soils than other slash pines. Pines are a cornerstone plant in the ecology of the state and should be planted more commonly to replace its dwindling presence in the landscape.
